Abstract

extrahepatic obstruction of the portal vein with resulting portal hypertension may cause extensive collateral circulation at the porta hepatis. These collateral veins may compress and narrow the common bile duct, sometimes causing obstructive
jaundice.
We present a 31-year-old-male patient, in whom choledochal varix accompanied by intra-and extrahepatic stones were diagnosed by Doppler ultrasonography, ERCP and angiography. ERCP demonstrated the irregular contour of the common bile duct and
multple
intraluminal filling defects.
We performed splenorenal shunt and then percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. All bile duct stones could be removed by percutaneous route.
